Activities implemented / under implementation:

Initially LWA started a mini Home cum clinic for Mentally Handicapped Children at 6/9 Lane, Brodipet to undertake Speech therapy and sale of hearing aids for the Deaf & Dumb Children. As per the request of the local adults and parents of few Children started a residential center with 05 Children with own resources.

In the year 2001, LWA shifted its services to a hired building at Pattabhipuram main road in Guntur, as found that many cases are unattended and services are to be undertaken. The center was run with 90 Children (most of them were Deaf & Dumb) and also with Mentally Retarded Children and approached the Ministry of Social Justice Government of India and was successful in securing the needed fund through Assistant Director, disabled, Guntur.

In the year 2003, as per the local problems for running this sort of a special school, shifted to Saraswathi Nagar, near Meherbaba Temple and established the center in a hired building with 90 Children.

Several severely affected physically & mentally handicapped Childred based (in Guntur municipal corporation limits and in the revenue sub divisions namely; Pedakakani, Vatticherukuru, Prathipadu, Mangalagiri, Tenali, Vemuru, etc.,) at their own homes are in contact with the functionaries of LWA and they are provided with information on securing certificates from the Government hospitals to access stipend / pensions which are provided at their Mandal head quarters.

Along with the special school referred above, LWA is also involved in organizing a non residential center for the aged (Orphan / Semi orphan, uncared aged persons) for 30 deserving aged people at Zampani Village in Vemuru revenue sub division. ;

Senior citizens provided with Non Residential Care – health care, medical checkup, providing low cost nutritious supplements and counseling services are extended at the center by three trained workers.

LWA is also undertaking Women Empowerment activities in 05 Villages - Capacity building of Women to access Government Welfare measures and to undertake Income Generation activities for economic sustainability at family level.

LWA Residential Care Center

The present center at Saraswathi Nagar, near Meher baba temple in Guntur municipal corporation limits has been run with 175 Children in the age group of 05-18 years during the year 2015-16. All the activities are run as per the guidelines given by the Member Secretary at MoSJ at New Delhi through the AD – disabled at Guntur.

The present activities in the center includes

Residential care and motherly affection has been provided to the inmates by the trained and experienced staff working with LWA. Personal care and individual attention is paid to all the inmates as per the need.

Nutritious food is served at the center as per the “Menu” given by the Government authorities. Special food is served during festival occasions and National festivals as per the agreement made with the Asst. Director – Disabled, Guntur.

Speech therapy, audiology sessions and special education classes are conducted as per the need of the inmates. As per the categorization, abnormal / sever, moderate / normal or mild cases are categorized to provide specialist services.

The Deaf & Dumb category of Children and mobilized to attend Government public exams and every year 7-10 Children appear the class-X exam and pass successfully as per the assessment is made in a ‘special’ manner.

Special education sessions are conducted at different sections by trained and committed social workers and the instructors. Parents / guardians have been expressing their satisfaction towards the Children’s physical / intellectual growth.

Children are provided with opportunities to play in the vacant land available opposite the center under strict supervision and control of the instructors. Likewise, a few Children also perform cultural events at special occasions.

Certain Children who are disowned by their parents are brought to our center by the local Police and the Municipal authorities. Such cases are provided with extraordinary care to pick up their health and to bring back to normalcy.

Periodical health and medical screening camps are conducted with the support and partnership of local doctors (including Homeopathy) to pay special attention for the Children who are in need.

Several philanthropists provide assistance in the form of ‘Kind’, such include – M/s State Bank of India, Crane Betel Networks, Bharathi (XXX) Soap Works, Walkers Association, Vasavi Vanitha Club, Lorry Owners Association and the like.
